Turbogenerators supplied with live steam from the steam generator make electricity. As much as 700 kWh of electric energy can be obtained from one metric ton of waste, enough to serve a family of four for some 2 months.
Still higher efficiencies can be achieved by cogeneration, the combined production of electricity and heat. The balance is tilted toward district heating or process steam in times of high heat demand and toward electric power in times of low heat demand.
