Success for AE&E in Asia - Three orders secured via licensee since April 2010

Far Eastern demand for technologies provided by the AE&E Group is at record levels. Together with its licensing partners, AE&E is among the global leaders in Energy from Waste (EfW), and Asian clients are increasingly looking to benefit from the group’s know how and expertise. In the past quarter Japanese licensing partner Hitachi Zosen Corporation Ltd. landed orders for three plants in Asia featuring AE&E’s innovative EfW combustion technology. Licensing partners have adopted AE&E technologies for nine Energy from Waste projects in China since the beginning of 2009, enabling the group to gain an increasingly strong foothold in the booming Chinese market.

The contracts won by Hitachi Zosen include the installation of AE&E’s cutting edge combustion technology at one of the world’s largest EfW plants, in Laogang near Shanghai. In addition, construction of an EfW facility in Dalian, a port city in Liaoning province, began at the end of May. AE&E has recorded a notable success in Japan in the past quarter, landing the contract for an EfW plant in Nishiharima, Hyogo prefecture, due for completion in March 2013.

One of the world’s largest Energy from Waste plants

An EfW plant fed by domestic and commercial waste is currently under construction in Laogang near Shanghai, close to what is currently China’s largest landfill. The facility’s four lines will have a combined capacity of 1 million tonnes (t) per year. The contract signed by Hitachi Zosen at the end of June comprises the engineering design and supply of the entire combustion system. Commissioning is scheduled for March 2013 and after completion the plant will feed electricity into the local public electricity grid.

New EfW plant for Dalian

Following the signature of a contract in late May, work has also started on another Chinese project, in Dalian – a port city and Special Economic Zone which is home to many foreign companies. The plant will have three 500 t/day lines. Hitachi Zosen will be providing the engineering design and the combustion system which relies on AE&E technology. The plant, fed by domestic and commercial waste, will supply electricity for the public grid.

Further success in Japan

The Nishiharima EfW plant will consist of two 44.5 t/day lines. Hitachi Zosen signed the contract for a turnkey plant at the end of March. This will use AE&E’s tried-and-tested EfW technologies, which already enjoy a strong reputation on the Japanese market.

AE&E’s track record in Asia spanning half a century

The AE&E Group includes a specialist Energy from Waste Division into which former subsidiary Von Roll Umwelttechnik AG was merged during a recent reorganisation. Von Roll signed a licensing agreement with Hitachi Zosen Corp. Ltd. as far back as in 1961, and this has been extended every ten years since then. AE&E technology is currently in operation at almost 200 EfW plants in China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. The latest orders are an impressive demonstration of AE&E’s technological leadership in the Southeast Asian market.
